This is a brilliant and original book on Gurdjieff's Enneagram. There is nothing like it in the literature. Wertenbaker is a senior member of the New York Gurdjieff community. This slender volume is the fruit of a lifetime of original thinking. Much of the text is mathematical, yet even the mathematical novice can read around and through it. I cannot recommend it more highly.

This book gives an intriguing illustration of how the symbol of the Enneagram as laid out in the Gurdjieff Work can help one to understand mathematical, physical, musical and other elements of the external world around us. Through its reading one can dive deeper into experiencing how symbols express themselves through one's consciousness to open pathways of understanding and knowledge about the world. This book is not one exclusively meant for those with much experience in the related fields but helps to open the interest in their relations with the symbol and its understanding as seen in the Gurdjieff Work for novice and expert alike. Deck is fairly nice, art work is brilliant, book is informative but cards are a bit thin, the black edges are not all black (has areas of a bit of white in areas, seems like a printing issue) and book does not have reversal information. Other then that it's a wonderful deck epically at $16.

I'm nearly the last person one would expect to own a tarot deck. I am, to put it bluntly, an unbeliever (and still am - don't expect an epiphany in this Amazon review!) But that never hindered my imagination or my love of fine illustration. When a post on an entirely different forum raved about this "steampunk" deck, I was intrigued enough to follow the link.So that I could review the deck in the same order as it appears in the book, I re-arranged the cards being careful to not look closely at each face beforehand. Over a few successive nights at bedtime I had the pleasure of reading each entry and flipping over the corresponding card to see the full image for the first time. And what images! This isn't my mother's old Rider-Waite deck (no offense to its fans, it just doesn't appeal to me). The realistic depictions seized my attention and combined with the fantastical scenarios to set my imagination soaring.Because I won't be using this deck for readings, the thin card stock isn't an issue. I would have liked slightly larger cards just so I could better see the pictures, but the (black and white) illustrations in the book are larger than the cards and show fine detail.The accompanying book by Barbara Moore was a good introduction to the interpretation of Tarot and the themes of Steampunk. I found it neither overly simplified nor excessively arcane.My only nitpick with this deck is the depiction of animals; the (non-mechanical) horses don't look quite right, and the falcon is freakishly large, or else the woman holding it is a dwarf. And be aware that all the humans depicted are white, although that comes with the territory I suppose. There is one person of color, maybe, in the numbered cards.If I had to pick a favorite from this deck it would be the Knight of Wands.

Tarot cards have different meanings in a upright position or a reverse position. So a smart designer should use a totally symmetrical pattern as the back of cards. This deck really annoys me--users can easily judge the direction of cards from their backs! This REALLY impacts my decision of picking cards. Besides, the description of the book is NOT for beginners. It's more like an explanation book for the idea of the illustrator, not the meaning and prediction you want to know.

Appalling quality card stock on a jacked up price, shame on Llewellyn. This by far the worst quality card stock I have ever had. I love the art but this deck, now $13 more than it was last summer when it ran out of stock worldwide, is also of extremely poor quality. It promises to bend and fray in no time flat and it's expensive to have to keep replacing. I am increasingly disappointed with Llewellyn's card stock and am going to have to stop purchasing decks from that publishing house no matter how beautiful the art. I recommend not wasting your money on this deck. It gets three stars rather than one only out of respect for the art.

The cards are as expected --> Beautiful!!... BUT, I don't like the fact that it doesn't have "an individual box" for the cards, you have to look where you are going to keep them unless you really want to have them inside the big cardboard box.P.S.: I don't like to have them in the satin bags.

This deck is so easy for me to read with. It also helped me get over a tarot block I was experiencing.Before I received this deck, I thought maybe it was going to be just another pretty deck. I thought the images were gorgeous when I viewed them online, but I didn't really see how they could translate in a reading. I was WRONG! This is a very chatty deck that will surprise you!The companion book by Barbara Moore is one of the best companion books I have read. It is like sitting down with a dear friend and discussing tarot. More than that, it is like sitting down with a tarot expert and having her explain her insight into each card. It is worth reading from cover to cover. The spreads are great and my favorite is the reworked horseshoe spread.Anyone who is a fan of steampunk, the scifi genre, and who reads intuitively will appreciate this deck. I can see this deck having a wider appeal to many types of tarot readers and querents. Those who appreciate fashion, a sense of adventure, a deck that tells a story ... this deck travels down many roads.So far my favorite deck of 2012. This is one of those surprise decks that will catch you offguard after you receive it, in its reading ability. You will be very pleased that you chose this one!
